The orientation of the galactic ring is used to synchronize with the Earth's precessional cycle. In the galaxy's center there is a black hole which that a 'rift' to form in our perspective of the galactic disk - the 'mouth' of the Oroborus. The Solstice Sun sets over this point only once in a precessional cycle. Maya tradition saw this as the Solar Father being consumed by the Galactic Mother - continuing the cycle of the universe with the following sun rise.
